Community Radio in India: How it is helping Society?

Radio as a mass medium is one of the oldest.  Over the years that it has existed it has seen a lot of ups and downs. Yet since its inception, it has somehow managed to survive the onslaught of time and the many changes that have existed in the field. In recent times the FM Band radio has been very popular not only in the metros but even in the Tier II and Tier III cities of India. But apart from the regular FM Radio Stations what is also making waves in India in recent times is Community Radio.

Community Radio: What it is about?

You need to note that Community Radio in its true essence is a democratic platform—of the people, by the people, and for the people. Community radio, in its real sense, has always been to create content for the benefit of society as well as individual upliftment and also for empowerment.

Anand Deshmukh – His Struggle for helping Community Radio

Though Community Radio has been meant for the benefit of people and society at large, its survival has in many cases been not been easy. In fact, according to a popular Radio Artist Anand Deshmukh, the survival of his community radio was very tough.
He belongs to a small population of people. Over the years they have been driving the community radio movement, which is now almost a decade. Their main goal is the creation and maintenance of a truly democratic platform, where content creation is not decided based on trends, sensations, or TRPs. The content needs to about social issues to cause good to the people at large. Their main aim is to bring in the various problems facing people to the very forefront so that effective solutions may be designed.
They have sought to empower people through community radio stations by helping them raise their voice on important social issues. Through their effort, certain prominent community radio stations have evolved in various parts of the country like Radio FTII 90.4 FM Maharashtra, Radio Udaan in Punjab, Apno Radio, 90.4 MHz Rajasthan and many more.
The result is that Community Radio is now playing a significant role in shaping the future of Rural India.
In conclusion, we can indeed say that over the years, the radio sector in India has evolved interestingly. So in case, you aspire to become a Radio Jockey (RJ) in Kolkata, then KIMB is a leading RJ Training Institute in Kolkata.
